![]() | The Parrot Gate Probably the most enjoyable project in my portfolio. This client had seen another theme gate that I had done and asked me to design a gate with parrots. Fully 3-dimensional with copper branches and stainless steel leaves, the trees split in the middle to open the gates. The parrots are all sculpted in animated positions. All natural finish. |
![]() | Encinitas This residence was in construction for over 3 yrs. and has some of the best hand forged ironwork we've ever done. My clients have told me that they constantly get compliments on our work. |
![]() | Rancho Santa Fe Bamboo Fireplace Screen One of my better, older (time wise), clients wanted to complete the fireplace remodel with a tropical screen. We designed a bamboo screen for the new stone fireplace. I think we exceeded his expectations. |
![]() | La Jolla Stairway The designer saw this rail design in a magazine and wanted to emulate it for her La Jolla client. What makes this stairway special is the brackets and knuckles that are the details of the rail (check out the "In Progress" page). I've never met the clients, but I've been told that they approved of my work. The designer on the other hand always see's my work with sighs and it's o.k. but..... . I think she'll be working with someone else on her next project. |
![]() | Contemporary Chandelier Another David Robinson Design, special feature for a clients La Jolla patio. Along with the chandelier are the matching wall covers for the soft side light's that brighten the entire patio. This design is much more difficult to achieve than you might think. |
![]() | The Desert Gate A very loose/artistic version of the "Golden-Ball Lead Tree". And although it appears similar to the "Parrot Gate", It is a very different fabrication technique. A lot of work, but also a work of joy. We even made the gate latch hardware and the leaf handles. Some of the steps to fabricate this gate can be seen on the "Work in Progress" page. |
![]() | The Lily Pond Fence This client had seen the "Parrot Gate" and asked me to design a fence around her pool. Beside the work to design and fabricate the fence, the finish was also very important. Next to a pool, possibility of climbing, and a difficult verdigris finish. This is a photo of the sliding gate that has about a 10' opening. The fun part of this job was making all of the little creatures that live around a lily pond. |
![]() | The Lily Pond Fence details This is a collage of the little creatures on the fence above. Most of these are on the sliding gates above. |
![]() | The Dolphin Gate Another fun project. This time the client said, "my husband wants a gate with Dolphins". The design matches on both sides of the gate. It's supposed to look like the Dolphins are coming through the kelp. Natural finish on the copper Dolphins, copper verdigris on the kelp. Check out the Octopus door handles. |
![]() | La Jolla Residence We did a lot of iron on this residence. The final was the driveway gate. It looks like double gates but it is actually a single gate that hinge on the right side to allow for the turn into the driveway. |
![]() | Los Feliz Residence A friend of mine and builder introduced me to his client in Los Feliz, where he is restoring and remodeling this huge home built in the 30's. The spiral was needed to provide access from the main house to the new entertainment room below. It matched the original work done in the home and the client was very happy. When it is finally completed it will have mahogany treads to match the rest of the wood work. |
![]() | The Beach House The owners of this home on the beach share it with family and friends. The rail was installed to keep people from falling off the 6" step next to the dinning table. They wanted something fun to go along with the party atmosphere of the home. It's a bronze patinated wave rail with stainless steel bubbles. |
![]() | La Jolla Home This is a David Robinson Design. The rail is steel frame with a bronze patina and stainless steel horizontals. This job is one of the jewels of my portfolio. The home and stair rail were featured in the Feb. 05' issue of CALIFORNIA HOMES magazine. You can see more of David Robinson's web-site at: www.davidrobinsondesigninc.com |
![]() | Del Mar Condo A young lady bought this Del Mar condo and wanted a very clean contemporary look. She was particular about using stainless steel and she liked the tapered verticles. She was delighted by the end result. |
![]() | Liquid Amber Rail This client has 10 Liquid Amber trees on his property. He and his wife love the shade and the fall color that these trees give them. When he asked for something unusual for his stairway his trees provided the leaves for us to scan in and duplicate. The trees are little loose on the exact interpretation of a Liquid Amber tree, but we were all happy with the end result. |
![]() | "My most challenging project" This relatively simple looking stairway was not. Curving in every direction, Mark Tarasuk designed the stairway with matching upper and lower radiuses, and opposing vertical curves as well. The curves were dictated by the slope of the limestone treads that could not be altered. |
![]() | Ranch Santa Fe Contemporary This was the first project I did with David Robinson Design. The rail features a bronze handrail, brass posts, black patinated steel frames suspended by copper rods for the glass panels. All natural finish with no visible fasteners. |
![]() | Fairbanks Ranch The client was doing an extensive remodel that included removing the wood stair rails. Her home re-design included lots of tassels and she asked me to include them is the stair rail. If you look closely you can see the individual strands of the, all different, tassels. |
![]() | Sun Valley, Idaho This is the guest house of one of our more local clients, and Sun Valley is a long way to go. I took very careful measurements and everything fit perfectly. |
![]() | The Cocktail/Dinner Table Base My clients like to entertain. They had a new 6' round cherrywood table top made that was going to be placed in their beach front window. The challenge was to make a base that would allow it to be used as a cocktail and dining table. The photo shows the final table, and the inset shows what makes it work. Working Table Video |
